Sedation Dentistry

Reducing Dental Treatment Anxiety for Your Comfort and Health

For many people, a trip to the dentist is a high anxiety event. At Jeffery T Bonk DDS, we are dedicated to providing you with a safe, secure, calm dental experience. If you have dental anxiety, sedation dentistry may be the best option for you.

Sedation dentistry offers many benefits to meet your individual needs, including:

  • Allows your body to relax more completely, increasing the effectiveness of local anesthesia
  • Reduces the sensation of passing time, which can be useful if you need complex or multiple treatments in a single sitting
  • Prevents your muscles from stiffening or becoming sore due to spending extended periods of time in one position

Types of Sedation Dentistry

At Jeffery T Bonk DDS, we offer Nitrous Oxide and Oral Conscious Sedation. Regardless of the sedation type, you can rest assured any time sedation is used in our practice, it is monitored by experienced dental professionals who ensure your safety and comfort.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide, , commonly known as laughing gas, is a mild dental sedation medication. Once inhaled, it induces a state of mild relaxation. It reduces sensitivity to pain and is safe for virtually every patient regardless of age. Following treatment, oxygen is used to neutralize the effects of the nitrous oxide. Once this is complete, you will be fully alert and able to drive yourself home.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral Conscious Sedation, or OCS, provides a stronger level of sedation than Nitrous Oxide. Many patients prefer to use OCS for the deeper relaxation it provides. Though you are still able to stand, walk and answer questions, you remain in a calm and drowsy state throughout the treatment. With OCS, many patients have found they have little memory of the procedure after the fact. For patients with dental anxiety, this can be a great benefit.

Unlike with Nitrous Oxide, if you choose OCS, you will need someone to provide your transportation on the day of your procedure. While there are no lingering aftereffects to using OCS, sedation effects can take up to 24 hours to fully diminish.

What Our Patients are Saying

Cynthia Harper

“Love this practice! From the moment you step in the door, to the moment you leave and everything in between is a wonderful experience. Dr. Bonk and his staff are caring, highly skilled, knowledgeable, engaging and very competent. Highly, highly recommend this practice!!”

Charles Bartels

“Pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable staff and Dr Bonk. I am in a wheelchair and Barrington Dental is set up with generous doorways and hallways. In other dental offices the dentist”s chair is stationary. Dr. Bonks chairs are movable and allow me to have a comfortable accommodation. I highly recommend Barrington Dental for any patient, especially for those with mobility issues.”

Paul Nielsen

“I have been a patient of Dr. Bonk’s for over 25 years. Would be hard to find a better dentist than Jeff and his staff has always been excellent. Would recommend to anyone.”
